This week we will be running through eCPR and ECMO, how to activate the ECMO team and what roles we all have to fulfil to get these cardiac arrest patients onto ECMO. Check out the eCPR SVH ED roles and eCPR criteria so you know what to do.
We will be running through insertion of chest tubes and practising on lamb ribs, thanks to Jim’s Butchery on Oxford St.
This will be followed by a trauma team simulation scenario, so please make sure you are familiar with the svh-trauma-team-roles
This is followed by trauma cases and Fellowship questions.
See you there
This week we are providing another FIB workshop, brought to you by Julie Leung (ED Consultant) Julie Gawthorne (ED CNC) and Jenny Stevens (VMO anaesthetist, Head of Pain Service).
If you are not yet accredited for FIB insertion, please complete the FIB learning pathway on your HETI “My Health Learning” site.
You can also check out the Vinnies produced FIB in the elderly guide via the ACI website. fascia-iliaca-block-guide
and watch the video of FIB insertion here
Also access here the Vinnies documents svh-fib-protocol and the pain-assessment-in-elderly
It is a great workshop that will inspire you to insert FIBs into all your NOF# patients ASAP!
We should all be confident and up-to-date with our ALS knowledge and practice
Check out the SVH ALS guidelines 2018 for up to date information that is also site specific. You will also find information on the LUCAS device, ECMO and how to manage VAD patients.
Fill in the SVH ALS workbook 2018 to complete your ALS accreditation for the year.
A big welcome the the 2018 and our new and old registrars.
Teaching this week is orientation, Fire training, BLS accreditation and introduction to simulation. Hope it is not too much information overload.
Combined Hospitals Emergency Medicine Programme replaces teaching for Wed 30th August and is being hosted by SVH ED. Don’t miss it.
This week’s teaching will be our biannual airway workshop.
It kicks off with a chat about difficult airway management and the difficult airway trolley. Followed by some great skills stations and, of course, a difficult airway scenario in simulation.
We have our very own SVH ED Emergency Airway Management Handbook
And here is the SVH ED Intubation Checklist
This week we are having a toxicology spectacular. We have the enthusiastic and dedicated SVH Clinical Pharmacology Consultants Jon Brett and Darren Roberts joining us, along with our very own toxicologist Julie Leung. There’ll be cases and discussion and, of course, simulation.
Please familiarise your self with the Risk assessment approach to Toxicology Assessment
